The City of Derry Building Society dates back to 1876. The City of Derry Building Society remains a traditional mutual society and as such does not have to pay dividends to shareholders.

As a mutual organisation the Society is owned by its investing and borrowing members. It annual accounts are made available to all residents in Northern Ireland although, in practice, most business originates from the Londonderry area.

It provides competitive savings products and flexible, mortgages. This Building Society is a signatory to the Banking Code.

It is also a member of the Building Societies Association. The Society is authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority and participates in the Financial Services Compensation Scheme.
