This society was established in 1847. It has a network of 12 branches serving the communities of Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Suffolk and London as well as many agencies in the region. In 2004 its assets reached £460 million.

It is a mutual society and as such always tries to plough back any good fortune to its members. It does this through higher interest rates for savers and continuing to offer lower rates for borrowers. Any surplus funds are used to increase their reserves to give extra security and stability.
