Formed in 1846 with the merger of two other Yorkshire based societies, it is the second oldest society in the UK.
In 1939 it felt that it had enough branches to open a Head Office which it did in York Place Scarborough. It has since outgrown this building as a Head Office but the building is still used for one of its main branches. The present day branches are located widely through Yorkshire and also into Teesside as well as the East Midlands.
They offer a number of mortgage products and their portfolio includes flexible mortgages, fixed rate mortgages, variable tracker rate mortgage, cashback and for the property investor Buy To Let mortgages. Their assets now exceed £1.4 billion and the Scarborough is now in the top 20 of the largest building societies in the UK.
